What are the electrical requirements for an Aries Spa?

For the Aries 220V. 3-pump systems, you will need a dedicated 50 amp breaker, and 6 guage, 3 plus ground wire running to the site where the spa will sit. Leave at least 10 feet of slack where the wire will connect to the spa. For Aries 4-pump systems, you will need a dedicated 60 amp breaker, and the same wire as above. For Aries 110V models, please call the factory for specifications.

Do I need to install a GFCI breaker for my spa?

It depends. If your spa was ordered prior to August 2007, the Aries Spa comes complete with a built-in GFCI breaker. If you add another one, your spa may not run properly. If your spa was ordered after August 2007, your electrician will need to install a GFCI breaker for your spa.

Does my spa need to sit on a concrete pad?

It is essential that your spa rest on a solid, fairly level foundation. A concrete pad is excellent, as is a well-constructed wooden deck or wooden and concrete sub-frame (see "What is a sub-frame" below or click here to go to subframe plan page). A foundation of hollowstone blocks or stepping stones is not sufficient, as the intense weight of a water-filled spa will push the center-most stones into the ground, causing stress on your spa and its frame.

What is a subframe?

A subframe (click here for plan) is a little pier-and-beam foundation. The piers are concreted into the ground, and the beams are attached to the piers, giving uniform support. A 2' x 2' concrete pad is poured in the center to help take the weight of the spa.

Care and Maintenance

How many gallons of water does my spa hold?

The amount of water your spa holds will vary according to how high you keep your water level. The following are approximates:

Grand Bahama 700 gals.
Canyon Lake 600 gals.
Monte Carlo, Montego Bay, Del Mar 550 gals.
Coronado, Key Largo, Galveston 500 gals.
Mystic Bay, Martinique, Freeport 450 gals.
Catalina, New Orleans, Aries Clover 375 gals.
Roman Double, Tropic Isle, Santa Cruz 300 gals.
Rum Cay, Bikini 250 gals.

I have an ozonator but sometimes add bromine. Why does my bromine test strip always show that I have no bromine in my water?

Your ozonator cleanses the water with ultra-violet rays, which quickly deplete your water of bromine. You can use a shock treatment to quickly raise your bromine count as a sanitizing aid, if needed.

How do I clean my filter?

(To understand the basics of removing the filter cartridge, see the "How To" video or animation, or your owner's manual.) To cleanse loose dirt and debris from your filter cartridge, remove it from the filter housing and hose it off. When a more thorough cleansing is needed, as when the cartridge has become imbedded with lotions or body oils, you can put the filter on the top rack of your dishwasher (no dishes in this load, please) and run it through a cycle with no detergent. Make sure your heat-drying feature is turned off, as this would warp the cartridge. Occasionally, it may be necessary to soak your filter cartridge in a solution of filter cleaner (available from Aries), diluted according to directions or swimming pool acid, diluted 10 parts water, 1 part acid. Many spa ownes purchase a spare cartridge, so that they can soak one while the other is in the spa.

How often should I drain my spa?

Aries recommends draining and cleaning your spa once or twice a year, unless there is a specific reason to drain it more frequently.

How do I keep my spa's acrylic finish looking beautiful?

Just wipe with a mild detergent, such as Dawn® dishwashing liquid. Do not use any abrasives on your spa's acrylic finish. Don't use excessive detergent on your cloth or you may have quite a bubblebath-effect when you next use your jet pumps. You may want to check out the Lucite® Maintenance page for more information.
